After a rather conceptual and theoretical approach to photography during the studies in Fine Art, Nicole Hametner (1981, AT/CH) chooses to enrol at the educational centre in Vevey for a professional education. Basing on an initial technical education, a superior education in photography leads her back to an artistic encounter with the subject.
Graduated in 2008 in Vevey, Nicole Hametner achieves the First Prize of Photography 2009 of Bern for her series Aster. This work is published by Editions Filigranes Paris and was presented at Paris Photo. After several group exhibitions Nicole Hametner has her first solo show Aster at the Gallery Stimultania in Strasbourg. Her second solo show, Black Light was shown in 2010 at Marks Blond in Bern. For her work Le Sapin she achieves for the second time the First Prize of Photography 2011 of Bern.
2012 she resumes her master’s degree at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. There she explores the photographic analogue still and the electronic moving image, reflecting on their relation to time. 2014 -2019 Nicole Hametner works as Senior Assistant at the Bern Academy of the Arts, where she currently teaches photography. Next to that she is active as an independent photographer.
